Holistic Choice Koi Food.
Holistic Choice provides your Koi with a healthy staple diet of 38% protein, fish meal based kibble along with the healthy benefits of 8 freeze dried fruits and vegetables with every feeding. A diet so unique you can see the difference!
For your koi to thrive they need more than just a quality kibble, they need the vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables. A well rounded diet is important for the overall holistic health of your koi (and yourself).
THE PROBLEM : Floating pellet koi food must be heated to well over 280 degrees in order to create the air pockets needed to make that food float. We all know that when ANY food is heated to that temperature the vitamins and minerals are highly depleted. The protein is there but the vitamins and minerals are gone. That is why it is so important to supplement your koi's diet with fruits and vegetables.
THE SOLUTION : HOLISTIC CHOICE uses ONLY "human grade" (not animal or pet grade) freeze dried fruits and vegetables that actually contain 100% of the vitamins and minerals of store bought fresh fruits and vegetables. With every feeding your koi will be getting the vitamins and minerals they NEED on a daily basis. You will no longer need to remember (or take the time) to supplement your kois diet.
Here is why HOLISTIC CHOICE's freeze dried fruits and vegetables contain 100% of the vitamins and minerals of store bought fresh fruits and vegetables: Store bought fruits and vegetables are at least 3 to 10 days old since they were picked in the fields. Once picked from the grower's fields fruits and vegetables start to lose their vitamins and minerals with each passing day. HOLISTIC CHOICE's fruits and vegetables are freeze dried within 16 hours of being picked !! The freeze dried process looses only 1% of the vitamins and minerals, giving our fruits and vegetables 100% of the vitamins and minerals found in store bought fruits and vegetables. And ALL of HOLISTIC CHOICE's fruits and vegetables (except the pineapples and bananas) are CALIFORNIA GROWN !
Holistic Choice vs the Premium Brands: Its amazing what most manufactures are charging for their premium brands of koi food. Most of the premium brands are between $9.00 and $16.00 per pound. In our research we found only one manufacture that acknowledged the problem of heating their foods to such extreme temperatures (to make them float) highly, if not totally, destroys the vitamin and mineral content. We found it very interesting that no other premium brand manufacture addresses this problem in any of their literature. The manufacture that does is Dainichi Koi Foods. We highly respect their honesty and straight forward acknowledgement of the problem. On their website they state: "In traditional food preparation, the ingredients are extruded into pellets at extremely high temperatures that decrease and often destroy their nutritional value." Their solution to the problem of diminished vitamin and minerals from heating was brilliant at the time they formulated their foods. They coat their pellets with vitamin and mineral coating after the extruding process. While this concept is much better than doing nothing, we feel adding actual human grade freeze dried fruits and vegetables with 100% of the vitamins and minerals of store bought fresh fruits and vegetables into the food is a better solution. Our solution is so unique the U.S. Patent Office has granted us a "patent pending" on the concept of adding freeze dried fruits and vegetables to koi kibble.
ENZYMES : Enzymes are needed for the digestive system to work. Enzymes have a very specific 3-dimensional structure in space called "tertiary structure". Heat as low as 118 degrees will disrupt this structure and render the enzyme useless. Once enzymes are exposed to heat, they are no longer able to provide the function for which they were designed. Once the enzymes have been exposed to heat (as low as 118 degrees) they become "denatured", meaning useless. It is therefore easy to understand that floating kibble does not have any enzymes to help the koi digest their food. Most of the premium brands talk about how "digestible" their foods are, yet nothing is mentioned about the lack of enzymes in once heated floating koi kibble. Very interesting. The freeze dried fruits and vegetables in Holistic Choice have 100% of the enzymes that "mother nature" gave them. This is just another fact and reason we call our food "Holistic".
Any nutrition expert will tell you that it is better to get your needed vitamins and minerals from fresh fruits and vegetables than taking a daily multivitamin tablet. The same applies to your koi. And the additional benefit of using freeze dried fruits and vegetables is that they float just like the pellets. Holistic Choice kibble is fish meal based and is 38% protein. Right up there with the premium brands. The big difference is the price. Holistic Choice retails for approximately $5.75 per pound which is 35% to 140% less expensive than the premium brands that do not have the vitamins and minerals of Holistic Choice.

Note on feeding HOLISTIC CHOICE:
The first time you feed HOLISTIC CHOICE to your koi they might not eat some or all of the fruits and vegetables. This is normal behavior, especially if you have never supplemented your koi's diet before with any type of fruits or vegetables. Most koi are hesitant to eat anything they have not seen before. Be patient. It is also important NOT to remove ANY of the uneaten fruits or vegetables from the pond. Within a short period of time they will slowly get used to the new items and once a few of them go after the fruits and vegetables the others will follow.
